The handpan is a mystical instrument that applies the principles of harmonics vibration, helping to clear the mind and bring a sense of inner peace.

Harmonics refer to a physical phenomenon where three vibration frequencies (tonic, octave, and perfect fifth) resonate in integer multiples (2x, 3x, etc.), aligning at specific points to produce a pure and clear sound.



The harmonic structure in acoustics is conceptually similar to the golden ratio (1:0.618) in visual structures, forming a tonal balance that embodies a "golden ratio" in sound.



Just as artworks based on the golden ratio evoke a sense of stability and tranquility through their balanced structure, harmonics in sound create clarity and serenity by producing a soothing resonance.

  • 2006 Worked in the R&D department of the venture company Sound Color System, developing voice analysis and emotion analysis algorithms.
  • 2007 Winner of the 4th Korean Popular Music Awards for Best Rock Album & Rookie of the Year (Cross-Genre).
  • 2010 Encountered the handpan during travels in Arambol, India.
  • 2012 Started playing the handpan while managing the art team Talgakgo.
  • 2013 Winner of the Music Award at the 34th Seoul Dance Festival for choreographer Kim Sung-yong’s performance Superhuman.
  • 2014 Established a workshop in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, dedicated to handpan research and production.
  • 2015 Founded Snd Handpan (Sound & Design) and officially registered the business.
  • 2017 Unveiled the DC04 material handpan.
  • 2018 Researched and developed handpan designs using stainless steel alloy.
  • 2019 Released the Snd stainless steel handpan.
  • 2021 Opened an additional workshop in Muju, Jeollabuk-do.
  • 2023 Integrated factory and studio operations in Geumsan, Chungcheongnam-do.

Snd Handpan is the only handpan brand in Korea that possesses the proprietary "Harmonics Vibration Tuning" technology, enabling both instrument manufacturing and tuning.

CEO Hwang Hyung-chul, who has dedicated his life to sound research across both analog and digital domains—winning music awards and developing sound algorithms—has spent the past decade playing and studying the handpan. Now, he is officially introducing his work to the world.

In 2015, he independently developed and launched his own handpan, marking the beginning of his journey. Beyond manufacturing, Snd Handpan also provides after-sales service (A/S), retuning services, academy programs, and tuner training, laying the foundation for the broader handpan culture.
